People who make a living by creating division make me want to puke!
Cases in point;
I just listen to Rom Emanuel on #thisweek. The father of the idea that political hacks should never waste a crisis as an opportunity to spew their partisan, negative bullshit is setting a new standard of depravity. Suggesting that the President of the United States should be investigated for his responsiveness is a blatant act of partisan politics without peer. There was a time when I thought Rom might have the best interest of our country in his game plan, but today he proved that I had been deceived in that belief.
Before I go further I want to state that this is not about party affiliation. I vote my heart and my head, not just blindly down some party line. So take the “he just another conservative” out of you excuse basket should you choose to read further.
This is not just about Rom though. It’s about a Democratic party that’s in a living nightmare. They have an image of being dominated by extreme left wing socialism, a probable presidential candidate that is obviously having cognitive issues, and a President who is winning over a population that sees him doing a pretty damn good job managing an unmanageable crisis. Hard to find daylight in that reality.
Nancy Pelosi is caught dead-center in that political nightmare. Her comments about “after action reviews” of how Trump handled this corona virus crisis is near treasonous. There will be time for that, but now is not that time. Now is the time to pull together, to rise above partisan politics and actually lead….or shut up and get out of the way. The problem is Nancy can’t shut up. She has to sew her seeds of division, because without them she would have nothing to say today and nothing to try to harvest tomorrow.
Leading from the rear view mirror is not leading. Anyone can second guess and Monday-morning-quarterback. It does not take intellect or skill, but it’s certainly not a behavior of true leadership. The problem looking back this time is that the timeline and evidence it displays will not allow so much for disparaging what’s been bad about Trumps leadership as it will to highlight what’s been good. There are many examples across both the political and media spectra. An obvious example is when Trump enacted the China travel ban, how political leaders responded to that and how “editorial opinion” media reported it. The left and their media-cohorts reached deep into their script writers verbal outrage bag of tricks and shouted “xenophobia”, “racist”, “hysteria”, “fear mongering” (Biden). The Washington Post, the New York Times, Vox, Buzzfeed, CNN, MSNBC, and many an anti-Trump science type all jumped on the the moment with their usual anti-Trump pronouncements. All have since changed their mind, retracted their previous posts or just shut their yaps.
“We have deleted a tweet from Jan 31 that no longer reflects the current reality of the coronavirus story. For the latest on Vox’s coverage please go here: https://www.vox.com/coronavirus-covid19 …”
So, the trouble here with the Rom & Nancy shows is they need new material. This tack is not going to get them to their hoped for destination. The time line is too full of landmines for the left to avoid being shown to have made too many misjudgment, misstatement, deceptions or outright lies. The written and video records of their divisionist rhetoric are too abundant. All one needs to do is go back and capture the messages from the many moments along this time line and the political shenanigans the left become blatantly apparent.
Some smart party leaders recognize this situation, while others still radiate it’s stink. Nancy’s most recent twisted-lip statement “As the president fiddles, people are dying,” shows she just can’t lead from the front but rather only heckle from the sidelines, relying on the well-worn reference to Nero. Really, is that the best she can do? Fiddling?
In contrast, Democrat and California Governor Gavin Newsom, after a short bout of Trump-bashing, has realized this is a time for truthfulness, exhibiting a the characteristic of a real leader during a time of crisis, when, in his recent interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper he said, “This is not time to bicker,” “Let me just be candid with you. I’d be lying to you to say that [Trump] hasn’t been responsive to our needs. He has. And so, as a sort of an offer of objectivity, I have to acknowledge that publicly.” “The fact is, every time that I’ve called the president, he’s quickly gotten on the line. When we asked to get the support for that [USNS] Mercy ship in Southern California, he was able to direct that in real-time. We’ve got 2,000 of these field medical sites that are up, almost all operational now in the state, because of his support. Those are the facts.”
The continued actions of folks like Rom and Nancy will only serve to make the timeline more powerful than it already is. There is just too much evidence that Trump was more right than wrong, while Nancy and the left-leaning media were more wrong than right. Not a pretty picture headed into a presidential election. They know it and they are panicked by that knowledge.
We are all in the same boat. It is time we all row together.
