Then there is the little chromosome reality. XX and XY. If you are XX you are the female of the species. If you are XY, you are the male. That's the basic physiology. The psychology is a much more complicated thing and greatly influenced by hormonal dynamics.

That said, the reality is that athletic prowess is definitely biased toward XY. Essentially every performance record in every sport show XY out performs XX; distance running, sprinting, high jumping, pole vaulting, swimming (every stroke), shot putting, discus throwing. skiing (every form), marathons, triathlons, powerlifting; there is a distinct XY advantage. That's a problem.

In golf they adjust for the performance differences between players with a handicapping system. It serves to create a competitive balance between me (a handicap index -25) and Tiger Woods (+6). In other words the index reduces his advantage by giving me 31 strokes; if he shoots 68 and I shoot 99, we tie at 68. )My 99 real strokes minus the 31 handicap strokes + 68)

A similar system could be used to allow XY to compete in XX events. Consider the 100m dash world records; 10.49 seconds for XX, 9.58 seconds for XY. It takes the best XX about 0.91 seconds (or 10.5%) longer to cover the same distance. In theory, if you gave XX a 0.91 head start they would end in a tie.

Thus, whatever the sport, look at the differences in performance records and determine the handicap the XY needs to give the XX to make the playing field level.

Sorry, more than anyone wanted to know. But I did do it with using foul language.
