If not, it's more than a bit dilussional. First, Russia will never be able to re-enter the world community. They could never be trusted, especially with a maniac like Putin being the gang boss. They will likely be resigned to being a puppet state of China, similar to North Korea.

Reaching it's goals in the Donbas region is far from a certainty. It is convenient though that those goals are so "flexible". Even if they get something they spin as a win, they will struggle to hold on to it.

Any "action" that Russia might take against Isreal will be easily countered by the west. The ONLY reason the Nevsky Church is in play is because of the of the war-crime level aggression of Russia in the Ukraine....and before that the Crimea.

Lapid made the statement he did because it is undeniably true. There is no justification for Putin's war. Vlad figures that no one is going to volutarily join his mash-up. He has nothiong anybody wants. Even the worlds most disadvantaged refugees don't flee to Russia. To him his only recourse is to make them join by force; the school yard bully approach.
