Well Lauren, I’m late in commenting, but I just saw your story today. So please forgive me.

From reading you story it is apparent that you don’t like what you do for a living. The work is too hard and even though you aren’t even 20 yet you say you are in significant physical pain. I’m not sure what job you are doing, but whether you do it within a capitalist system or a socialist system would not be likely to change whether or not it causes you physical pain. Thus, my suggestion is find another job, because the system won’t make the difference.

I find it interesting that you claim so many young people don’t buy into capitalism any more. It’s interesting because they have certainly bought into its cousin consumerism. They flock to the newest smart phone, will pay a mortgage payment for a pair of basketball shoes, or sleep on the streets for nights in line to get the newest version of some video game. I think perhaps it is the expectation that access to such disposable, discretionary money should be considered normal and thus some sort of entitlement. But it isn’t.

The reality check here is that you will need to work in one system or the other. You need to earn a living. Whatever your skill set is will determine your work load and compensation in either system.

Too many people seem think that socialism will cut them some slack. That they will work less and get more. But that cannot work either. The numbers don’t add up. Even if you embrace the communistic practice of capping one persons salary in order to give it to someone else it won’t work. There is plenty of evidence that shows the lack of capitalistic incentive results in economic stagnation and ultimately failure. It’s why no pure communistic society has survived. Even the Chinese version of communism wouldn’t be What it is without their commitment to capitalism; but even with all their success, only about 400 million of the 1.3 billion population reap the benefits. The majority work hard for little compensation and a much lower standard of living than the average young person here in the US enjoys.

There are no free rides in life…..despite what Bernie would have us believe.
