What a great and insightful article about one of life’s most complex challenges; for the teens, the parents, their families and society. Finding some semblance of a solution is more than difficult.
Right or wrong, how we dress sends signals to those around us. Certain bits of clothing send messages, intended or otherwise. Wearing a MAGA hat tells something about you. Wearing certain “sneakers” or “colors” associates you with certain groups or behaviors. Wearing a simple cross on a chain around your neck announces to all what your beliefs are. Like it or not, that’s the way things work.
Crotch high skirts and stiletto heels are often the dress code of ladies of the night and have been for decades. They dress that way because of the signal it sends; open for business. Sadly many of the celebrity role models that teen girls emulate dress employing those same signals; or minor variations of them. Parading around on stage, or even in public, is fine for mature women who understand the signals they are sending and are (hopefully) prepared to deal with them. But for the young teen girls trying to be like, dress like, act like those role models it is a mine field of many potential disasters.
